Hammam
Hammam is a steam bath or shower room as being called by the Moroccan. Hamman is part of their life, at least once a week they do or go to Hammam, for them it’s the total cleaning of the body for the whole week.
The first time that I went to hamman I had no idea how it looks like. I was invited with my Moroccan friend. We went to the traditional hammam. The first room that we entered was a dressing room. It’s a big room without cubicle only wooden bench, where you will put your things, and undress at the same time. At first it was so awkward for me because there’s a lot of people there, I’m too shy, it’s not been a practice for me to display my beautiful, sexy, alluring body to any one. (well actually its the opposite). Then my friend led me to the shower room, to my amaze, there’s a lot of people inside, some are totally naked and some with underwear only.( By the way all female. The man are separate, that’s why I’m so disappointed, I mean disappointed because I forgot to bring my polka dots bikini)) I felt shock for a moment, because it’s my first time seeing a lot of people naked. Then I thought to myself. “Did I enter the time machine? Way back in Genesis, when Eve had not eaten the forbidden fruit yet, she had no idea if she wass naked or not. I felt like I’m inside the garden of Eden.” When I enter everybody is staring at me, because I’m the only beautiful, I mean Asian there. I walked with my hands covering my breast. I felt like they saw everything to me including my liver, pancreas, kidney, colon, and intestine. Then my friend gave me a pale of hot water and then we started to take a shower while me on the dark corner, facing the wall. Then one woman came she said if we want gommage. When she start scrubing my body the words that utter to my mouth are, ouch, iw, ah, its so painful, from the scrubbing pad and the way she is scrubbing me. I wanted to shout, HELP!!!, guard , police, FBI, Robocop, voltes V. Voltes V? (gush, its so old) I mean Iron Man V!!! Then afterwards I noticed that there’s a lot of dead skin being removed from my body that had been sticking there for almost a century. After the scrubbing it’s so refreshing, my motto that night is “No pain, No gain” I gain a lot of dead skin, I forgot to collect them and put in the frame for souviner (yew!!).
Any way, Hammam is worth trying for. If you will visit Morocco . Don’t go home without trying a hammam, it’s a unique experience.
